
Michael A. Buccino, D.D.S., M.S.D. has practiced pediatric dentistry in Massachusetts
since 1988. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Oregon in
1978 and a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Northwestern University Dental School
in 1982. Graduating among the top of his dental class, he also received the highest
score in the nation in the pediatric dentistry/orthodontic section on Part II of the
National Dental Board Examinations. In 2000, Dr. Buccino was listed in the Guide to America's Top Dentists.
He is also a Referee for Pediatric Dentistry, the official journal of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Buccino entered Indiana University School of Dentistry and Riley Children's
Hospital for his specialty training in pediatric dentistry in 1986 after completing a
four-year appointment with the National Health Service. He earned both a Certificate
in Advanced Graduate Studies in pediatric dentistry and a Master of Science degree in
pediatric dentistry with a minor in child psychology from Indiana University in 1988.
Dr. Buccino was only the fifth student since the beginning of the graduate program
in 1951 to be awarded both the Certificate and the Master of Science degree during
the term of his residency. Graduating first in his pediatric dental class, Dr.
Buccino was also awarded the Ralph E. McDonald Scholar Award for outstanding
performance in the advanced pediatric dentistry program at Indiana University.
In 1989, Dr. Buccino received a Diploma for the successful completion of a 425-day
curriculum in comprehensive orthodontics at the Doyle Seminar series of advanced
courses in progressive knowledge and techniques for earlier and better patient care.
Dr. Buccino wrote his Master Thesis on informed consent and has also published
articles in professional dental journals on multiple supernumerary teeth and Rett
Syndrome. Periodically he gives dental presentations to dentists, pediatricians,
hygienists and the general public.
Dr. Buccino is a member of the American Dental Association, the Massachusetts Dental
Society, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Society of
Dentistry for Children, the Massachusetts Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the
American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Southeastern District Dental Society. He is
currently Chairman of the Southeastern District Dental Society, past Vice-Chair and
Chair-Elect of the Southeastern District Dental Society, past Vice-President,
Secretary and Treasurer of the Fall River Dental Society, and co-founder of the
Middleboro-Lakeville dental study group. He is also on the medical staff at Charleton
Memorial Hospital, St. Anne's Hospital and the Same Day SurgiClinic, all located in Fall River.
Dr. Buccino is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. In order
to achieve this distinguished designation, pediatric dentists must complete rigorous
examinations and a clinical survey before a group of peers from across the country.
This voluntary evaluation is attempted by only a small percentage of pediatric
dentists. Upon successful completion of the examination, pediatric dentists are named
Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. In addition, Dr. Buccino is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Outside the office, Dr. Buccino enjoys traveling, fishing, skiing, and golfing with
his wife, a professional children's photographer, and their four children.
